The African Pediatric Nephrology Association, AFPNA, is the official representative of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association in Africa.
The African Pediatric Nephrology Association, AFPNA is the official regional representative of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association in Africa. It has members from all regions of Africa. AFPNA was born in 1999, and affiliated to IPNA in 2000. Its first congress was in Cairo in March 2000 where the Secretary General of IPNA, Ira Greifer and thirteen IPNA councilors attended as guest speakers. Its second congress was in Port Harcourt, Nigeria 2002 ; the third in Cape Town, South Africa 2006; the fourth in Nairobi, Kenya, March 2010. Dr Bahia Moustafa, Head of Pediatric Nephrology Unit, Cairo University Egypt was the 1st President. Egypt, Nigeria, Libya, Sudan, Mali, Cameroon, and South Africa were the first countries to form its constitution. Currently, AFPNA has four councillors on IPNA Council.
